چکیده

The dynamics of bubble coalescence is studied using a robust numerical model for a multiphase flow system with interfaces. The effects of liquid viscosity and surface tension on bubble coalescence, for which Reynolds number ranges from 10 to 100 and Bond number ranges from 5 to 50, are investigated. It is shown that the numerical model used in this study can accurately capture the complex topological changes during the coalescence. The predicted behaviour of bubble coalescence is in reasonable agreement with our experimental observation. It is found that with a high Reynolds number (low viscosity) a strong liquid jet formed behind the leading bubble inhibits the approach of the following bubble. Hence coalescence does not occur or is postponed. A lower surface tension results in an earlier coalescence because of severe stretching of the interface.

CFD Hydrodynamics Analysis of Syngas Flow in Slurry Bubble Column

In this paper, a CFD model of syngas flow in slurry bubble column was developed. The model is based on an Eulerian-Eulerian approach and includes three phases: slurry of solid particles suspended in paraffin oil and syngas bubbles. Numerical calculations carried out for catalyst particles, bubble coalescence and breakup included bubble-fluid drag force and interfacial area effects. Also, the ef...

Hydrodynamic investigation of multiple rising bubbles using lattice Boltzmann method

Hydrodynamics of multiple rising bubbles as a fundamental two-phase phenomenon is studied numerically by lattice Boltzmann method and using Lee two-phase model. Lee model based on Cahn-Hilliard diffuse interface approach uses potential form of intermolecular forces and isotropic finite difference discretization. This approach is able to avoid parasitic currents and leads to a stable procedure t...

Numerical Investigation of the Effect of Bubble-Bubble Interaction on the Power of Propagated Pressure Waves

The study of bubble dynamics, especially the interaction of bubbles, has drawn considerable attention due to its various applications in engineering and science. Meanwhile, the study of the oscillation effect of a bubble on the emitted pressure wave of another bubble in an acoustic field which has less been investigated. This issue is investigated in the present study using the coupling of Kell...

Numerical Analysis of Water and Air in Venturi Tube to Produce Micro-Bubbles

Two-phase flow regimes are affected by conduit position, alignment, geometry, flow direction, physical characteristics, and flow rate of each phase as well as the heat flux toward the boundaries. Due to the importance of two-phase flow, numerous regimes have been identified. The first step in studying micro-bubble formation inside a venturi tube is to recognize the type of flow regimes. In this...

Influence of acoustic pressure and bubble sizes on the coalescence of two contacting bubbles in an acoustic field.

In this study, the coalescence time between two contacting sub-resonance size bubbles was measured experimentally under an acoustic pressure ranging from 10kPa to 120kPa, driven at a frequency of 22.4kHz. The coalescence time obtained under sonication was much longer compared to that calculated by the film drainage theory for a free bubble surface without surfactants. It was found that under th...
